Location Narrative ? Short, linear cottonwood stand, on convex-shaped island floodplain of the South Fork of the American River, has trees in clusters. A flood channel (with water) and a cobbly, gravel gully borders one side (NE), then the river on the other (SW). Large open areas present between clustered trees. Understory is mostly California rose and Equisetum with Fraxinus latifolia. Substrate is sand and cobble. The litter is mostly flood deposited (and there were some big flood events this year).
