Horning Ranch, Hamlin Canyon in Butte County: A riparian woodland with valley oak and interior live oak co-dominant. The understory is open (along the Hamlin Slough), most likely due to heavy impact by cattle (trampled bare earth under the buckeye and a fair amount of bark disturbance). There are scattered buckeye in the low tree layer and patchy shrubs (Rhus and Rhamnus) along with low Vitis climbing up into the canopy.
