BLM parcels in Butte County, north and east of Paradise: The stand is a black oak woodland on a steep north-facing slope with scattered emergent ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, and scattered buckeye and bay in the low tree understory. The shrub understory is dense and multi-layered with much poison oak and dogwood and a diversity of other shrubs. The herbaceous layer is sparse and composed primarily of natives. There is no evidence of recent disturbance.

Mark didn't walk the extent of the stand. It might be much larger. The boundaries are indistinct and it grades into an adjacent Quercus chrysolepis stand.
