This is a narrow Quercus wislizeni stand, situated on steep north bank of the South Fork of the American River, defined by understory of Ptelea crenulata. The oaks are relatively small probably due to the extreme slope (36 degrees). Some blue, black, and valley oaks start to come in just above the stand. The understory is mostly native forbs, with abundant poison oak, and a little Avena barbata. Large rock outcrops dot this band.
