Near Hathaway Ranch, Shasta County: Stand is just below and adjacent to top layer of canyon wall projecting out and facing SW into center of Hamlin Canyon. Herb stand on thin soil over volcanic mud bedrock. Vulpia microstachys and Erodium dominate with abundant Plantago erecta and Navarretia. Site obviously wet until recently. Stands with deeper soils have taller grasses below and on sides of this stand. Great view.
