Near Hathaway Ranch, Shasta County: Stand is on very top of long, projecting finger (mesa) of canyon wall (canyon below on 3 sides). Very thin, volcanic soils with no trees or shrubs on top. Phenology is late. Stand has large patches of Minuartia and Petrorhagia with lots of diminutive Gastridium. There are islands of Bromus hordeaceus. Selaginella dominates and is distributed across entire stand in patches. Small and large rocks litter the stand.
