A small stand (~1000 m square) of interior live oak and buckeye in the midst of a chamise sea. This stand is in a small swale, but is also indicative of the transition from chamise to interior live oak in this area. There are many old decadent chamise around the perimeter. The shrub understory is diverse and multi-layered. Other similar stands occur nearby, along the lake on N-facing slopes. In this stand, mature buckeye forms a low tree understory layer under the interior live oak, and the buckeye saplings (~1 m tall) have significant cover.
