The stand is located on BLM land in El Dorado County. It is near the confluence of Big Canyon Creek and the Cosumnes River. It is a riparian woodland dominated by Populus fremontii in the upper canopy and Fraxinus latifolia in the mid-canopy. The canopy is discontinuous. There are many native forbs along the water's edge and exotic species entering from the water. The medium layer Fraxinus latifolia was included in the low tree/tall shrub cover total.
