McAlpine Mine is on Penon Blanco Peak, Tuolumne Co. The stand is a large open shrubland of scrub oak, chamise, yerba santa, and Heteromeles arbutifolia, that was recently burned (three to five years ago), located on the south side of Highway 49 about a half mile north of the county line. The stand is on serpentine soil, with widely spaced shrubs. Annual grasses and forbs dominate in between the shrubs.
