This pond was the largest & most open of the complex with a relatively diverse herb community distinct from previously sampled ponds. Also contains Hottonia. From Plot 828, follow pond complex to northwest. Ponds continue & become larger & more open. Plot 829 is largest, last pond with no outlet & steep side slopes. See map.; AND: Plot is located in southern part of pond near a reclining Salix. Sampling area is completely open with no canopy or understory.
Interdune pond with steep slopes on 3 sides. Connected to complex of smaller ponds to S-SE. Pond drops off deeply from shore but appears uniform in depth (2-3'). E. shore very high (20-30').

Slopes are well vegetated with Ilex opaca, Quercus falcata, Pinus taeda, Carya cordiformis. Dry with 3-4" organic matter with loamy sand underneath. Along edge of pond Myrica cerifera & Persea sp. are present. Also Nyssa biflora & Diospyros virginiana. Fothergilla on banks?; AND: Dominated by herbaceous emergents: Polygonum, Ludwigia, Hydrocotyle, & Ricciocarpus. There's a thick mat of algae. Willows are present near shore & one in center of pond. Eupatorium capillifolium (dead) stems are dense along eastern side of pond.
