representative of mid to upper slopes along the ridgetop separating steeper slopes. Very sparse overstory of red maple, red oak and birch. No limestone present

ridge top. On either side of the ridgeline are steep valleys.. Soil is a spodosol, very interesting here in Central PA. Soil horizon includes a charcoal "A" horizon followed by a very light (nearly white) layer of fine sand.
