Plot is located within training area D-6, just west of road to radio tower along east edge of D-6. Pot is approximately 300 m south along road (approximately where the road has a hairpin turn) and 50 m west of beginnining of turn.
Area west and north has some maple in canopy and subcanopy, but it is never dominant. Typical dominants are still Quercus prinus and Betula lenta. Acer rubrum and Betula lenta appear to have colonized after mortality of mature chestnut (?) dominated sta
