Observation Narrative ? Notes of forest adjacent to HOFU.27 - Canopy dominant is red maple with occassional pin oak. Poorly drained soils. Forest grades into scrub/shrub in places where swale becomes poorly drained and surface flow is diffuse (mix of poison sumac, alder, young red maple). Photos 678-681. Photos of older slightly drier portion of stand. Pin oaks most common at edge of transition to scrub/shrub. A few pin oaks scattered amoung the red maple in rest of stand. Ground cover mostly Microstegeum and Carex pennsylvanica.
