The stand is located east of the fence adjoining the Butte College property and the Rock Ranch, just north of the Butte College solar panel farm. The plot is located on a west-facing slope that leads into a shallow drainage which flows onto the Rock Ranch. It is surrounded by open Blue Oak Woodlands. The herbaceous layer is relatively low in height and is dominated by annual grasses and unknown bulbs (most likely Dichelostemma sp.).; This location is grazed every 2 years (according to Deb Conway) for only a few weeks in the spring, and has not been grazed this year.
