Location Narrative |
Take Latrobe Rd. 1.5 mi. past the Stonehouse Rd. intersection. Walk south along fence line to southern boundary of Deer Creek Hills, near the dam. The plot is ~20 meters from the south fence. This plot is a Quercus lobata riparian woodland along a seasonal creek which is now fed by a leak in the dam. There is a band of mixed Salix along the creek and the Q. lobatas are just outside of that band. The narrow stand of Q. lobata is in the 2nd terrace, or floodplain, above the creek; the land then slopes upland into Quercus douglasii woodland. The understory is mostly grass and herbaceous herbs.; This plot appears to be mainly on the second terrace inside an old meander of the drainage. This stand may have been affected by placer mining. Light grazing occurs here in winter.
