The plot is located near the southern boundary of the Leininger Ranch in an area identified in the Biophysical Unit analysis as not sampled in the 2005 season. It is on a gentle slope above a small intermittent creek and is just at the edge of the valley floor. The soil is very thin and there are numerous basalt cobbles throughout the area. The vegetation is dominated by native annual forbs and there are very few grasses in the stand.; The site is actively grazed by cattle and is under a conservation easement with the Nature Conservancy.
