The plot is located in the southern portion of the Leininger Ranch, about 100m east of the rock wall just south of an intermittent creek. The herbaceous stand is the predominant vegetation type in this landscape of rocky, thin soils, interrupted by patches of California Annual Grassland (presumably where the soil is slightly less rocky and somewhat thicker). There is much overlap of species between the two types, however. The plot has a high cover of bioturbation in the form of cow prints.; Cattle are presently in these fields.
