The stand is located in a draw in the northeast part of the ranch. The slopes of California Annual Grassland to the east and west of the stand are gradual, and the bottom of the draw is about 8 m wide at the point where we laid the plot. The Eleocharis macrostachya-Lolium multiflorum association is continuous with varying species density for about 40 m to the north of the plot. Cover density is high, and the soil is still moist, although there is no running water through the plot.; This land is grazed, intensity is unknown, but there are cattle present. This particular stand appears to have been grazed at a low level. There are remains of a rock wall or water diversion structure down the draw from our plot. The effects of this structure on the stand, if any, are unknown.
