Site is located approximately 100 m west of where South Wilderness Trail leaves Grassy Canyon Road, adjacent to Chalone Creek. By appearance of willows, flood in 1998 probably changed location of stream channel in vicinity. Plot is part of a stand of Salix laevigata along Chalone Creek. A lot of the trees have dead branches on bottom 2/3. Taller (assumed older) trees in middle of plot with younger, bushier trees on margins. Thick understory of Bromus diandrus, Artemisia douglasiana, and Phacelia ramosissima. Marrubium vulagare and Hirschfeldia incana in plot. Centauria solstitialis was found adjacent to plot.
