Site is located at top of ridge between Bear Gulch & Chalone Creek. The High Peaks Trail runs from the NE to the SW, approx. 150 m away. We are at the head of a drainage that feeds into Pig Canyon. Possibly fire. Microtopography code "undulating" because plot has both concave & convex portions. Adjacent alliances difficult to determine because of the size of stand & lack of visibility in morning fog. The plot is part of a large stand of Quercus douglasii at the semi-flattened top of a ridge. The understory is non-native grass, mostly Avena fatua. The blue oaks represent 2 different sizes that probably coincide with age. Extensive pig damage in grasses adjacent to plot. Animal trail runs through plot. Rebar with yellow cap in plot. Hummingbird!
