The stand is located approx. 1/4 mi west of the pig fence in the new lands known as Gloria Wilderness. The entire stand has a southern aspect. The stand parent material is granitic in origin. The stand is dominated by an even distribution of both CA buckwheat and CA sagebrush. Land acquired by PINN in 2000 from BLM. Evidence of grazing: cow patties. Grazing is definitely affecting shrub density and distribution: there are spaces for cows to walk around shrubs; maybe not too many young plants (none!) because trampled. Pig droppings and deer scat in the plot too. Plot is located toward the top of the stand on the upper 1/3 of the slope. The plot has a southern aspect and a slope of 27 degrees. The plot is very characteristic of the large stand. Lots of butterflies: coppers! Puffball mushrooms too. Grazing is not too recent, cow patties are old and dry.
