The plot is located in the City of Chico, Doe Mill Meadowfoam Preserve. The plot is ~50 m from the western boundary and ~70 m from the northern boundary. The plot location was selected to represent the typical habitat of Limnanthes floccosa ssp. californica. The plot is higher/dryer than the vernal pool areas containing Navarretia (hirsutissima) and Lasthenia fremontii. The stand was dominated by Achyrachaena mollis, Pogogyne, Lolium multiflorum, Bromus hordeaceus, and Clarkia purpurea.; The site is now a 30 acre meadowfoam preserve and was not grazed this season. The site was most likely grazed in the past.
