The site is in the city of Chico's Drake mitigation area, near the southeastern most tip. The stand is in a small natural vernal pool dominated by Isoetes and Limnanthes, with Plagiobothrys and Lasthenia at the edges. This and similar pools found in the surrounding California Annual Grassland are primarily dominated by Taeniatherum and Avena.; This vernal pool appears to be natural though others nearby appear to by man-made. A large recent housing development to the south is not pictured on the air photo.
