The stand is located in upper Bidwell Park about 200 m northwest of the road running through the park; about 1/2 mile up the road from Horseshoe Lake. The stand was chosen to represent a repeating pattern of vegetation found on shallow soils over outcrops of volcanic mudflow. The stand is dominated by Navarretia spp., but was clearly dominated by Plantago erecta, Lasthenia californica and Vulpia microstachys about 3 weeks prior to the relevé.
