Location Narrative |
Cronan Ranch. The stand is located just to the west of the West Ravine Trail, about 1/16th of a mile north of its lower junction with the West Ridge Trail. The stand is located on the steep, west-facing side of a draw heading into the Norton Ravine. The stand is typical of other regenerating poison oak stands throughout the property. This could be a transitional vegetation type as grazing was recently removed.; It appears from the aerial photos and the artificially straight lines along the property boundaries that the majority of this 1000-plus-acre ranch was kept open by relatively heavy grazing. The grazing stopped a couple of years ago with the purchase of the property by the American River Conservancy.

upland; Mixed Chaparral; Is the Madia elegans somehow connected to the poison oak? It seems to co-occur in similar associations throughout the property. Coarse fragments "other" = moss (1%)
