The plot is off of Spring Road in the BLM's Battle Creek Recreation Area. The plot is located north and across the road from a target shooting area. The stand is dominated by Calycadenia fremontii and Vulpia microstachys. It is evident from residual dry matter that Layia fremontii was also significantly present earlier in the season. This type occurs in the surrounding plateau and hillsides on thin volcanic soil, with the soil surface covered in dry thin, algal mat and mosses.
