Dry ridge-crest forest dominated by Carya ovalis and Quercus montana. Soil is extremely stony and trees are somewhat stunted. Surface rocks appear to be quartzite. SOIL METHODS: Upper 10 cm (approximately) of mineral soil extracted for analysis. Catio
leaf litter varies from 0 -2 cm, mostly very sparse or absent.
