Aeolian Deposits: Aeolian sand flats and cover sands
Landscape Narrative
Upland hardwood forest that slopes down to the west into the floodplain of the Oklawaha River. Numerous trail and/or roads/firebreaks traverse this site. Canopy domnated by large individuals of Magnolia grandiflora (30-50 feet tall), Carya glabra (30-60 feet tall), and Quercus virginiana (30-50 feet tall). Understory (up to 30 feet tall) includes above-mentioned species plus Persea borbonia, Sabal palmetto, and Quercus hemispherica. Shrub layer was fairly thick with Serenoa repens, Callicarpa americana, Vaccinium arboreum, and Quercus virginiana. Vitis rotundifolia was the dominant vine. Ground cover included Cyperus sp. and Dichanthelium sp. North of site is an oak-dominated scrub. South of site is more upland hardwood forest but is on private property.
