Floodplain swamp with dense canopy of Liquidambar styraciflua, Pinus elliottii, Quercus laurifolia, Magnolia virginiana, Taxodium distichum (60-70 feet tall). Understory (30-50 feet tall) of same species as above. Tall shrubs (5-10 feet tall) includes Carpinus caroliniana, Sabal palmetto. Short shrubs (less than 5 feet) of Sabal minor, Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Liquidambar styraciflua, Itea virginica, and Cephalanthus occidentalis. Herbs were sparse but included Rhynchospora sp., Habenaria sp., Dichanthelium sp. Site very open and easy to walk through. Water is 1-2 feet deep, tannic, but clear. Substrate very mucky, but solid. Several standing large snags present. East of site looks like same community type. Not much disturbance observed.
