Pitch pine forest near a gentle ridge. This stand likely came to be as a result of a hot fire which allowed dominance of P. rigida. Now oak, maple and Nyssa are succeeding although it seems years off since P. rigida is quite dominant. -- To the SW off this plot is an extemely steep slope of pine-oak. Surrounding this stand is oak-heath, which may eventually dominate this stand.
