Moderate-steep east facing slopes with forest dominated by tulip poplar, red maple, and black oak, with sweet birch in subcanopy and well developed tall shrub layer with beech, spicebush, and dogwood, depauperate understory. -- This community better developed in draws and lower, more moderate slopes. Adjacent communities on somewhat more severe sites are oak-hickory forest, and on most severe (xeric) positions dry oak/ericoid communities.

Represents large patch of successional forest in concave, less exposed positions of Maryland Heights
