Landscape Narrative ? Very steep southwest facing slopes above cliffband with shalloe soils. Community is an open woodland with canopy dominated by stunted red oak and white ash and understory dominated by sedges and grasses. -- Adjacent communities include tulip poplar successional forest on better developed soils of gentler west facing slopes and ravines, and chestnut oak/ericoid community on southerly facing slopes away from the cliffband. This community is also likely to have a narrow virginia pine zone immeadiately above cliff band which was missed by sampling.
