Steep north facing lower slopes with mature forest with canopy dominated by tulip poplar, red oak, red maple, and sugar maple and lush tall shrub layer dominated by paw paw. -- Adjacent community below RR tracks is very narrow strip of floodplain forest.

Dominant matrix community of usually more gentle slopes, but its presence here on steeper northerly
Large trees and emerging dominance of sugar maple may indicate that this is one of the older stands of trees in the park, which was certainly entirely logged in the past.
