On Hwy 321, park at pull-off on east side of Little Pigeon River. Hike up old trail that parallels river for appx 1.5 miles or until get to first White Pine - Hemlock stand. Plot center is uphill of trail appx 10 m.
Slopes right down to river. Deep spongy litter layer. Single tree blow down. -- The vegetation on this slope shifts from White Pine - Hemlock to pure Hemlock dominance. Rhododendron dominance in shrub stratum is consistent on this slope.

Finally found White Pine on the Mt Leconte quadrangle. Equal dominance by W.Pine and Hemlock. Interesting that White Oak is present...perhaps sneaking down from above this site.
