Landscape Narrative |
Side of gap, convex slope, falls steeply to either side. deep litter layer. very dark at ground due to dense shrub canopy. -- Pinus pungens dominates on more xeric, exposed sites. Topo map indicates this site white, implying clearing or heathbald. It isunclear why this community is in this landscape position...best guess is that it was once burned or cleared.

Observation Narrative |
Relatively easy to walk through. Large clumps of Pieris. Interesting mix of Rhod max and Rhod cat...wonder about hybrids... a few trees poking through shrub strata, but these are short and stunted, but indicate that this heath bald is reverting back.
