Low elevation example of Chestnut Oak Forests. Open canopy. canopy composition is typical of polygon. open canopy of Q.montana and Q. coccinea w/ subcanopy of Acer rubrum and dense tall shrub layer of Kalmia and Rhodo max, low shrub Gaylusaccia ursina.
Appears to have formerly been co-dominated by Pinus rigida. Species are typical of pine-oak heath vegetation. Many canopy gaps and some snags, shallow duff layer.
