Begin on hwy 441 at the alum cave trailhead. head towards Gatlinburg, park at 2nd overlook to the right. walk back up 441 to curve in road and small creek/seepage. turn right, go through dense rhodo. until cove appears, appx 200 m.
Even slope. As approached from below, this community occurs in a narrow v-shaped ravine, but with incrasing elevation the ravine has broadened into a narrow cove. Only A soil sample collected...too rocky for B. -- Bordered below and E and W by Yellow Birch - Hemlock / Rhodo., unknown what happens further up cove.
