Very little surficial rock. Deep soil. Leitter layer composed primarily of oak leaves, about 4 cm thick, with many stages of decompositiion in layers. Moderately mesic site...Liriodendron tulipifera & Quercus rubra, but some xeric species...Quercus mon -- Subtle topography...This community on the upland "ridges" while Rhododendron thickets in the swales. Up on the higher ridges, especially south facing ones, pines dominate. Grades up to more xeric oak sites.
