Park at the Cades Cove loop road gate. Hike up trail on the right side, leads up to crooked arm ridge trail; follow ridge until trail first begins to follow ridgetop; follow trail about 1/4 mile until right switchback; plot is 50 m N before switchback.
Below the plot as well as to the north, the landscape has much rhododendron and chestnut oak, as slope becomes steeper. -- The north end of the plot becomes very steep with cliff faces averaging 10 feet in height. Several more large cliffs below and northeast of the plot.
Representativeness
Plot is fairly representative of the entire slope along this ridgetop.
