Old cottonwood trees in this area appear to be dying out and are being replaced by Rocky Mountain junipers (Juniperus scopulorum). Herbaceous layer is heavily infested with leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula). -- The ground water table may be receding in this area causing the cottonwoods to die out.
