Good development of byrophytes and ferns. Average juniper age is probably between 100 and 200 years. Fairly good age structure containing many young juniper saplings inside and on the edge of the stand. Litter and byrophyte layer is 1 inch deep on average. -- Plot is on a well-shaded, mesic North facing slope. Slopes in area with similar aspects contain similar communities.
