Location Narrative |
"EO is in the NJ Pine Barrens, a large field coastal plain region with sandy soils primarily dominated by Pinus rigida - Quercus Woodland. Layout Narrative |
Transect endpoints are permanently marked with rebar. Distance and compass bearing measurements to the plot location with measurements of plot orientation off the transect were taken. GPS coordinates for each corner of the plot was taken with submeter accuracy.; Plot on 60m transect 112 degrees SE, at 19-21m on S side; Environmental Comments: "flat, inundated, some minute topography with Eriocaulon aquaticum, open muck/peat"

Observation Narrative |
Community Type: Pine Barrens savanna
This EO is characterized by Orontium, Juncus pelocarpus and Drosera intermedia (and, in this case Rhyncospora inundata). It occurs in the lowest section of the savanna opening and is immediately surrounded by open water downstream and sedge dominated community type on the other sides. The opening grades into shrubby habitat and cedar swamp. Periodic flooding and evidence of browsing on nearby cedars.; Condition: "Kept in early succession by inundation."; "Patchy distribution of dominants, fairly rich (12 spp.) for such a wet community."; Other associated species present but not in plot: Juncus canadensis Eleocharis tuberculosa, Triadenum virginicum; Dragonfly (large, blue) present.
