Layout Narrative |
Transect endpoints are permanently marked with rebar. Distance and compass bearing measurements to the plot location with measurements of plot orientation off the transect were taken. GPS coordinates for each corner of the plot was taken with submeter accuracy.; Transect is 84 m long, 284 degrees ESE and 104 degrees WNW: plot at 20-22 m on N side.

Observation Narrative |
Community Type: Pine Barrens savanna
General Description from Transect (16-26m): Narthecium.; Community Description: "Open savanna with mosaid of associations including shrub (edge), Narthecium, sedge, Orontium, Cladium, Muhlenbergia torreyana. Narthecium on west side of savanna in open muddy area north of spong."; Development/Maturity: Succession is kept in check by browsing, flooding andor biogeochemical processes.; Species Composition and Biological Structure: community is rich in species (23 in 10 sq. m) with fairly evenly distributed clumps of Narthecium.; Abiotic physical factors: extrememly iron rich muck with bog iron layer.; Local Topography: floodplain of Mullica River; Physiographic Province: Outer Coastal Plain; Other associated species present but not in plot: Eriocaulon decangulare, Cladium mariscoides, Gentiana autumnalis, Schizaea pusilla (no Sphagnum, a lot of algae on muck);
