Observation Narrative ? Community Type: Pine Barrens savanna General Description from Transect (16-26m): Narthecium.; Community Description: "Open savanna with mosaid of associations including shrub (edge), Narthecium, sedge, Orontium, Cladium, Muhlenbergia torreyana. Narthecium on west side of savanna in open muddy area north of spong."; Development/Maturity: Succession is kept in check by browsing, flooding andor biogeochemical processes.; Species Composition and Biological Structure: community is rich in species (23 in 10 sq. m) with fairly evenly distributed clumps of Narthecium.; Abiotic physical factors: extrememly iron rich muck with bog iron layer.; Local Topography: floodplain of Mullica River; Physiographic Province: Outer Coastal Plain; Other associated species present but not in plot: Eriocaulon decangulare, Cladium mariscoides, Gentiana autumnalis, Schizaea pusilla (no Sphagnum, a lot of algae on muck);
