Observation Narrative |
Community Type: paleodune / pitch pine woodland
Community Description: Mixed broad leaved / needle leaved woodland in gently rolling terrain (paleodunes). Soil is very dry, white/grayish sand. Pinus rigida and Quercus marilandica dominate the tree, tall shrub and short shrub strata. The herbaceous layer is thin (6%). Lichens and moss cover the open sand. Smilax glauca is a major component but is so severely browsed, it appears shrub-like. No other disturbance.
