Observation Narrative |
Community Type: paleodune / pitch pine woodland
Community Description: Mostly broad-leaved shrubland located among gently rolling dunes. A few low (<10 m) Pinus rigida are scattered throughout. Shrub layer is Quercus marilandica and Ericaceous shrubs. Soil is white sand overgrown with moss and lichens. No disturbance except for deer paths. In non-vegetated areas, moss grows on bare sand, lichens cover the moss, and litter is strewn overtop both.
