Observation Narrative ? Community Type: sea level fen Community Description: Sea level fen dominated by Cladium mariscoides, with Eleocharis rostellata, Panicum virgatum, Calmagrostis cinnoides, Toxicodendron radicans, Eupatorium spp., in a mosaic with thickets and scattered clumps of Acer rubrum, Vaccinium corymbosum, Myrica pennsylvanica, and Baccharis halimifolia, and with patches of of Spartina patens-Distichlis spicata herbaceous vegetation. Community is partly bordered on the N and E by Acer rubrum-Liquidambar styraciflua woodland. There is no surface water. Soil is sand, mixed with black muck, saturated at 52 cm. Terrain is flat, except for occasional shallow man-made ditches.
