Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: Pocket of marsh adjacent to Alloway Creek and E of a recently improved bridge on Rt. 49 in Quinton. Upper edges of marsh are dominated by thick Phragmites australis. At the foot of the Phragmites, there are occasional stands of Spartina alterniflora. The inner, lower part of the marsh extending from the creek to the Phragmites is a monoculture of Peltandra virginica. Peltandra cover is low (~ 50% throughout) but would probably be > 85% in the growing season. Adjacent bridge has recently been "improved" and area next to bridge has some sand fill at the base. Iris prismatica is planted at the base of the bridge in the filled area.
