Observation Narrative ? Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh General Vegetation/Habitat Description: Fresh water tidal marsh along an un-named tributary of Big Timber Creek. The stream runs close to the W edge of the marsh. Marsh is dissected by several smaller streams. The dominant plant is Nuphar advena, with scattered patches of Zizania aquatica. There is some Phragmites along the edges, particularly upstream of the plot. Soils are soft, brown, saturated muck with a layer of partly decomposed organic material on the surface. There is little evidence of human interference with the marsh - no ditches or dikes - and relatively little trash. Marsh is bordered by mesic woods on the E and home sites on the W. Marsh extends both N and S of Almonesson Rd. Community Description: Freshwater tidal marsh along un-named N-S running tributary of Big Timber Creek. Marsh is also dissected by smaller streams. The dominant plant is Nuphar advena, with scattered patches of Zizania aquatica. There is also Peltandra virginica, Impatiens capensis, and Polygonum sp. Marsh is bordered by a fairly wide belt of mesic forest on the E, and by home sites on the W. There is some evidence of flooding, including a driftline of trash. There is no evidence of ditching, diking, or recent filling of the marsh. Evidence of Community Processes: Driftline of debris indicates occasional flooding.
