Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh
Community Description: Fresh water tidal marsh on shore of a cove in the Delaware River. A wide, muddy (but relatively firm) intertidal zone is dominated by Nuphar advena. Higher marsh has large patches of Acorus calamus. Sagittaria subulata is abundant along the upper reaches of the flat. The marsh is fringed with Typha spp. Phragmites australis dominates the higher ground. Moss [possibly Fontinalis sp.] grows attached to rocks and driftwood. A filamentous green alga forms a thin carpet on the mud in many places. The Delaware River shore in this area is composed of cobbles and pebbles with very little vegetation. The surrounding area is mostly built-up and industrialized. There is abundant trash along the high tide line of both the river and cove.
