Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh
Community Description: Extensive freshwater tidal marsh along a backwater of Mantua Creek, north and south of Rt. 44, which crosses it on a causeway. Marsh in general appears to be dominated by Nuphar advena, especially in lower-lying spots. Mudbanks and natural levees along minor stream channels have Amaranthus cannabinus and Polygonum spp. as cover. There is some Phragmites australis along edge of marsh. Western shore of marsh is built-up with houses and commercial buildings.
